2013 Toyota Sequoia Hauls in the Praise from Edmunds.com

2013 Toyota Sequoia

In a world where there seems to be fewer big SUVs than there were 15 years ago, there is a premium on large, truck-based SUVs that can not only hold a lot of people (and stuff), but tow anything your heart desires. The 2013 Toyota Sequoia is just that vehicle.

“The Toyota Sequoia is a big SUV that can do big things,” said Nathan Ayers of Burien Toyota. “In Western Washington, there a lot of people who want to be able to easily tow a camper or boat because there are so many places to do that in Puget Sound area. The Sequoia can do more than haul, it is also easy enough for the soccer moms to drive around without feeling intimidated. It’s a very smooth and responsive ride.”

The 2013 Toyota Sequoia provides comfortable seating for eight people (not just child-sized people), including a middle row of seats that moves forward and backward to create more leg space (more on that later). Or you can fold down all of the seats to get 120 cubic feet of cargo space-perfect to move a drum set or home improvement materials.

Edumunds.com, the premier “car people” website, had many positive things to say about the 2013 Toyota Sequoia, including aspects that make it a cut above others in its class, including the Chevy Tahoe and Ford Expedition.
  •  If you do have towing needs or other heavy-duty uses, however, nothing but a truck-type SUV will get the job done, and the 2013 Toyota Sequoia surely is one of the most comfortable ways to do it. The Sequoia rides better and has a more sophisticated interior than the stalwart class choice, the 2013 Chevy Tahoe, while its beefy V8 outshines the power available from the Ford Expedition.”
  • Edmunds.com testing revealed the Sequoia hustled from zero to 60 in an impressive 6.7 seconds. Not bad for a vehicle that is big enough to haul 7,000-7,400 pounds.
  • Front and rear parking sensors and a back-up camera are standard on the Limited and Platinum trims.
  • “The second-row seats in particular not only recline, but slide fore and aft for extra legroom: a rare feature among full-size SUVs."
  •  The center section of the 40/20/40-split second-row bench also slides forward to put little ones within easy reach of mom and dad."
  • The Sequoia's interior is well set up for carrying stuff, too, with 66.6 cubic feet of cargo space behind the second-row seats. While the popular Chevy Tahoe requires you to remove and stow its heavy third-row seats in order to maximize cargo space, the Sequoia's independent rear suspension allows its 60/40-split third-row seats to quickly fold down into the floor to create a vast 121 cubic feet of cargo space with all the rear seats folded. In the Limited and Platinum models, they fold with the touch of a button.
  •  Independent rear suspension and “quick” hydraulic power steering, “there’s a nimbleness” to be found in the Sequoia’s handling.

Of course safety is important and the Toyota Sequoia exceeds the safety expectations of a large SUV with its six-point Star Safety System that includes: Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Anti-Lock Brake System, Electronic Brake-force Distribution, Brake Assist, and Smart Stop Technology.

The 2013 Toyota Sequoia is the stuff that family memories are made of. “And to help make your adventures possible, it offers a powerful V8 engine and genuine all-terrain capability. In short, this vehicle does much more than merely simplify trips to the local big-box store. Sequoia gives you the ability to show your family the original meaning of “remote.”

‘Genie’ Kaley Cuoco Grants Wishes in All-New Toyota RAV4 Commercial!

 http://www.adweek.com/files/imagecache/node-detail/news_article/kaley_cuoco.jpg
Embodying the modern, stylish and smart characteristics of the all-new RAV4, Toyota’s new “Wish Granted” commercial starring Kaley Cuoco will make its broadcast debut on Feb. 3.  The star of CBS hit show “The Big Bang Theory” will appear granting the wishes of a family in unexpected and creative ways during one of the biggest sporting and advertising events of the year.  Cuoco’s comedic chops made her a perfect partner in bringing the RAV4 Genie character to life.

“The all-new RAV4 is a testament to the people that drive it and live lifestyles that are full of energy and enthusiasm, which is one of the reasons we are so pumped to work with Kaley to showcase it,” said Jack Hollis, vice president of Toyota Division Marketing at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. “We wanted to share Toyota’s ‘Let’s Go Places’ spirit of journey with viewers of the big game in a light and relatable way.”

“Wish Granted” features the all-new RAV4 that comes with a modern genie played by Cuoco who grants wishes to the Henderson family, the owners of the vehicle.  With a loveable, sidekick dog, Chester, Cuoco goes about granting the wishes of each family member in her own interpretation. The journey takes the family on a series of unexpected adventures including a trip to space and fulfilling the daughter’s request for princessdom.

“As soon as I saw the script, I knew I wanted to be in this commercial because the sense of humor was right up my alley,” said Cuoco.  “It was so much fun and I’m excited that everyone gets to see it now and again on Sunday.”

The 60-second RAV4 commercial is designed to resonate with people who lead active, busy lifestyles but still make time to embrace everyday adventures.  It speaks to drivers who want a stylish, capable and versatile vehicle that keeps up with the pace of their lives and still allows them to find the enjoyment and excitement along the way.

The commercial also features an image submitted by Ryan Koch of Fitchburg, Wis., as part of the Get In the Big Game opportunity that took place earlier this month.  Fans were invited to upload photos of themselves using the hashtag #wishgranted to Instagram and Twitter, and Koch’s photo was selected to appear in the ad.

"Ryan's photo captures the spirit and lifestyle of Toyota’s new brand direction – ‘Let’s Go Places’ – and the all new RAV4,” said Hollis. “Toyota’s ‘Let’s Go Places’ is all about inviting our customers on a fun journey with us, and the Get in the Big Game campaign was an opportunity to do just that.”

“Wish Granted,” created by Saatchi & Saatchi LA, will run during the first quarter of Sunday’s game, followed by the Toyota Super Bowl Today Post-Game Show, which will also include the airing of two additional new commercials highlighting the Tundra Endeavour tow and the recently-launched company direction, “Let’s Go Places.”

Toyota Superbowl Commercial Teaser

It’s that time of year again.

Superbowl Commercials.

Oh, yeah. And the actual Superbowl. But, really, unless you live in San Francisco or Baltimore, who cares about the game? Not that I'm a bitter Seahawks fan who knows we could've beaten the 49ers to go the Superbowl, but whatever.

No, the real action happens in the game breaks with the commercials.

Expectations are high for these spots because we all know that companies pay millions of dollars to highlight their company for 30 seconds. Toyota is no different and by the looks of this teaser, the Toyota Superbowl commercial will make your dreams come true (in the RAV4, no doubt).

Since all we have is a teaser of the Toyota Superbowl commercial, I thought we’d also look back at one of the all-time favorite Toyota commercials: Swagger Wagon where two hip (hop) parents rap about their parental swagger and Toyota Sienna SE. With “Where my mother-fathers at?”  and “We rock the SE not an SUV,” it’s pretty hilarious. Check it out HERE.

What do you think? Are you looking forward to the Superbowl game or commercials more? Bonus points for the first one who spots the Toyota “I wish” commercial first.

Toyota Prius C is Greenest Car on Road, Entire Prius Family in Top 12

The American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy (ACEEE) announced its annual list of top 12 greenest cars and the Toyota Prius C is at the top of that list.

The Toyota Prius placed third, Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid placed fourth, and the Toyota Prius V placed eleventh. It should also be noted that the Scion iQ placed ninth.

“This is great news,” said Nathan Ayers of Burien Toyota. “Here in the Puget Sound area, we care about the environment, so it’s a big deal that the Toyota Prius C was named the greenest vehicle on the road. Not only that, but getting 50 mpg really helps if you get stuck in that infamous Seattle traffic. Burien Toyota is the Prius headquarters of Puget Sound, so if you interested in owning the greenest car (or one of the greenest with any of the other members of the Prius family), then we can answer all your questions and support you along every step of the process.”

See the whole list HERE on the Greencars.org website.

In a list dominated by hybrid technology, it is impressive that the Toyota Prius C walked away with the prize of this competitive list. One of the things that put the Toyota Prius C over the top was the fact that, in addition to low emissions, it also gets 50 mpg (combined).

"The Toyota Prius family is really diverse," said Ayers. "There really is a Prius for just about everyone."

Check out the Toyota Prius C at Burien Toyota HERE.

Or, even better, stop by to take one for a test drive! It starts at just more than $20,000, so odds are, as the greenest car on the road and with 50 mpg, the Toyota Prius C will meet your budget and environmental expectations.

Scion FR-S is Performance Car of the Year

Scion FR-S is the Performance Car of the Year

In its first annual auto awards, CultureMap knighted the Scion FR-S as the Performance Car of the Year! The Scion FR-S was the brain (and love?) child of Toyota and Subaru, who each tapped into their individual expertise to create a serious sports car.

How serious is the Scion FR-S? Let’s just say the runner-up in this competition 2013 Porsche Boxter S.

Not only will you not have to pay nearly as much for the number one car in this race as you would for the first loser…er, we mean, second place…car (a Porsche), but the Scion FR-S is also one of those cars that makes “you want to get behind the wheel as often as possible…”

The Scion FR-S starts at just more than $25,000. The Porsche Boxter S starts at $61,000 and gets closer to $91,000 with all the options.

See how you’ll be getting more “Vroom” for you buck with the Scion FR-S. Check out this VIDEO  of the Scion FR-S (which literally made me say out loud, “That’s so cool,”) that will make you want to run to Burien Toyota and Scion to test drive the Scion FR-S.

This article promises that if you drive this stripped down, light-weight, rear-wheel drive performance car, you won’t miss the heated seats offered in other, more expensive performance cars. The suspension of the Scion FR-S is as “stunning” and the balance as “brilliant” as CultureMap says, so we’re pretty confident you won’t be focused on your bum. The Scion FR-S is an affordable and compelling sports car, and you’ve probably never seen anything like it.

Check out the Scion FR-S inventory at Burien Toyota and Scion HERE. Or even better, take the Performance Car of the Year out for a test run…because, really, what could be more fun than that? Stop by Burien Toyota and Scion and try your foot on the car that is sure to give you an amazing ride.

Toyota Sales Rise 22 Percent, Dethrones GM as Top-Selling Automaker

Toyota has recovered completely (and then some) from the earthquake and tsunami in 2011 in Japan, and flooding in Thailand that same year, that pushed it from the top of the automotive-selling world; Toyota sales rose 22 percent in 2012 to dethrone General Motors and become the top-selling automaker.

2013 Toyota Corolla
Toyota’s sales grew an impressive 22 percent compared to GM’s 2.9 percent.Toyota sold more than 9.7 million vehicles, beating out GM’s 9.29 million vehicles.

“There were a few months where Toyota manufacturing was really impacted by these natural disasters,” said Nathan Ayers of Burien Toyota. “Many local dealerships were impacted by what they had on their lots and buyers may not have been able to get exactly what they wanted or had to wait. That’s all over. These new numbers prove that Toyota is back and better than ever.”

According to this article, “Toyota's comeback from the earthquake, and flooding in Thailand, is only part of the story, says Jeff Schuster, senior vice president of forecasting for LMC Automotive, a Detroit-area industry forecasting firm. The company also has freshened up its stale midsize sedan, the Camry, the top-selling car in the United States.”

The launch of the new Toyota Corolla should keep Toyota ahead of all the competition this year, too.

GM was the top-selling automaker for 70 years until 2008 when Toyota first dethroned them. GM took over the top spot in 2011, but it only took one year for Toyota to come roaring back, which is a testament to it’s innovative systems, award winning vehicles, and customer loyalty.

Toyota Developing Virtual Co-Pilots, Not Driverless Vehicles

In a display that showed Toyota has a slightly different view of how technology should assist drivers and passengers, Toyota put on a show at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas last week. There, Toyota showed off a Lexus that had been fitted with sensors to assist drivers with traffic, surroundings, and other information that would help someone make better, safer decisions behind the wheel.

"For Toyota and Lexus, an autonomous vehicle does not translate to a driverless vehicle, but rather a car equipped with an intelligent, always-attentive copilot whose skills contribute to safer driving," Mark Templin, head of U.S. sales for Lexus, said Tuesday at a show presentation. "The driver must be fully engaged."

In an industry where it seems many automakers (and at least one internet conglomerate) is heading the way of the driverless vehicle, it is refreshing to see that Toyota doesn’t believe driverless vehicles are the only futuristic option. In fact, it also makes great business sense, too, as there seems to be a significant population of consumers who are wary of the driverless vehicle. Perhaps, Toyota's innovation and philosophy of autonomous vehicles is really the way of the future…or at least another idea to give  drivers of the future more options.

As mentioned in this article, Toyota has no plans to sell a driverless vehicle right now. All of its investments of energy and money are going into creating virtual co-pilots that “aid driver awareness of traffic conditions, enabling motorists to make better decisions and improve driving skills.

"We have a different philosophy than other people who are doing autonomous car projects," Templin said in an interview Sunday. "We believe the technology should make the driver better and that it should not be a driverless car."

So what do you think of Toyota’s autonomous vehicle philosophy? Is it smart to develop a virtual copilots to assist humans behind the wheel instead of driverless vehicles? Would you be more comfortable in a Toyota with a copilot or sitting in the passenger seat of a driverless car? Leave a comment below!

Toyotas Will Have Sirius XM Satellite Radio

This week Toyota and Sirius jointly announced that Sirius XM satellite radio will be available on all new Toyota models, whether the model has the popular Entune infotainment system or not.

“This just one more step that Toyota is taking to give people what they want,” said Nathan Ayers of Burien Toyota. “Toyota is always striving to design automobiles and integrate technology in a way that gives Toyota drivers and passengers the ultimate driving experience.”

Toyota Yaris
While Sirius XM has been available in some Toyotas since 2004, Sirius XM radio will now come standard on all new Toyotas. Here’s what Steve Cook, Executive Vice President and General Manager, Sales and Automotive at Sirius XM, had to say:

“Toyota’s significant increase in the availability of SiriusXM on its new multimedia system shows its commitment to giving customers technology that makes driving a Toyota vehicle even more enjoyable. Satellite radio is easy to use and according to a national survey it is a top feature for customers buying vehicles with new multi-media systems.  We are proud that Toyota sees value in making the world’s best audio entertainment available to even more of its customers.”

Local Toyota dealerships like Burien Toyota expect buyers to respond warmly to the new partnership between Sirius XM and Toyota.

“Buyers want options and by offering Sirius satellite radio on all Toyotas, we are giving buyers of all budgets more options,” Ayers said.
