Toyota Blazes Trail with Wireless EV Charging

Toyota continues to lead the way with electric vehicle technology. Not too many years after it introduced the first successful mainstream hybrid, the Toyota Prius, Toyota is now testing a technology that would allow its electric vehicles to charge without even being plugged in.

According this article, "The trial will utilize three Toyota Prius Plug-in hybrids equipped with WiTricity wireless magnetic-resonance recharging technology. Toyota invested in the MIT-spin-off company last year in a bid to bolster its technology portfolio. Rugged charging pads can be placed in just about any parking spot, and any compatible car parked over the pad will begin charging immediately, taking the plug out of the Prius Plug-in. A 2 kW receiver allows the 4.4 kWh battery pack to be recharged in as little as 90 minutes."

Not only would the electric vehicle technology include the capability to charge simply by parking over the pad, it also includes self-parking technology, so drivers don't have to worry about backing up or getting the car "just right" over the pad in order to charge.

You can see a full display of the self-parking technology and wireless charging technology in the video in the article link above.

As drivers, we love convenience and it doesn't get more convenient than not even having to get out of your car in order to recharge...you don't even have to back up the car yourself.

We look forward to hearing more about Toyota's wireless charging technology and seeing in Toyotas at Burien Toyota!

The Best 5 Road Trips in the USA!

We wanted to present to you some ideas for a great road trip!

1. The Pacific Coast Highway:

1,700 miles along the Pacific Coast from southern California to Washington's Olympic Peninsula. The scenery is breathtaking with stops that include Hearst Castle, Big Sur, San Francisco, Point Reyes National Seashore, Oregon Dunes National Recreation Area and Olympic National Park. Open the windows and enjoy the fresh air as you drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and watch giant container ships glide underneath.

 2. Florida State Highway A1A and the Overseas Highway:

This 600-mile trip traces Florida's Atlantic coastline from northeast of Jacksonville to Key West. Interesting stops along the way include St. Augustine, the oldest town in the U.S. (sort of); Daytona Beach, where you can drive on the beach; Canaveral National Seashore; and the John F. Kennedy Space Center. Highway A1A meets U.S. Highway 1 in Miami. Thus begins the scenic 127-mile drive on the Overseas Highway that boasts 42 bridges, including famed Seven Mile Bridge.

3. Newfound Gap Road/Blue Ridge Parkway/Skyline Drive:

This seamless, leisurely drive through three national parks offers some of the East Coast's most scenic landscapes. Newfound Gap Road (32 miles long) cuts across Great Smoky Mountain National Park and connects with the Blue Ridge Parkway (469 miles), which connects with Shenandoah National Park's Skyline Drive (105 miles). This wonderful drive is void of billboards, traffic lights, roadside trash, and speeding 18-wheelers.

4. U.S. Highway 2:

The northernmost U.S. highway zigzags through mountain ranges, traverses the northern Great Plains, and swings around lakes as it connects Everett, Wash., with Houlton, Maine. The entire route, including a 700-mile stretch in Canada, covers 3,300 miles. In the West it crosses the North Cascades and the Rocky Mountains. In the East it meets the Green and White mountain ranges. In between it passes through small towns with local museums and inviting coffee shops.

5. U.S. Highway 395:

Connecting southern California with the Canadian border, this 1,300-mile drive traverses high deserts and mountain valleys through a large portion of the scenic West. The highway runs in a north-south direction through some of the most beautiful, but uncrowded sections of California, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington. The best portion is arguably California's Owens Valley, which bisects two major mountain ranges.

Toyota Sienna Minivan One of '12 Best Family Cars for 2014' Says Kelley Blue Book's KBB.com

One of the most respected authorities in automobile value, Kelley Blue Book, has announced via its website, KBB.com, that 2014 is one of the 12 Best Family Cars on the market. This is just one more acclaim for an already favorite family wagon!

"The Toyota Sienna is one of America's favorite minivans," said Ted Klarich, general sales manager at Burien Toyota. "One of the reasons is that people love it is because it's so different and so much better than minivans of yesteryear and what people think of as a minivan."

Here's what Toyota officially had to say about the nod from Kelley Blue Book:

Already established as one of the most versatile and family-friendly vehicles on the market, the Toyota Sienna today was named one of the “12 Best Family Cars” for 2014 by Kelley Blue Book‘s KBB.com.

KBB.com editors were impressed with the Sienna’s family comfort and versatility, stating “with reclining captain's chairs -- including a footrest -- the Sienna may be the most passenger-accommodating minivan you can buy.  And, with more varied configurations than any other minivan on the market, the Toyota Sienna is the perfect family-car for more than 100,000 families each year.”

“Best Family Cars 2014” was compiled by recruiting families to assist nine Kelley Blue Bookeditors in comparison testing of eligible vehicles after editors narrowed more than 300 vehicles down to 21 semi-finalists.  The testing centered on the areas of safety, comfort, driving performance, room for child seats, cargo space, rear-seat entertainment, and other family-friendly features.  The goal was to determine the “most functional new cars for families.”

Stop by Burien Toyota today to take the 2014 Toyota Sienna for a test drive and find out why it might be the perfect family vehicle for your family!

Burien Toyota Offers 3 Kelley Blue Book Award-Winning Vehicles

Kelley Blue Book (found online at KBB.com) is one of the most respected sources for all information having to do with new and used car value. The first place people go is kbb.com when they want to know how much their current car is worth or when they are considering purchasing a new car and want to know its resale value.

This is why it's so impressive that Toyota has earned the top spot in three auto categories for Kelly Blue Books "5-Year Cost to Own Awards!" According to this article, "Using a variety of categories, including maintenance and repair costs, general depreciation, and fuel costs, KBB.com records its own 5-year Cost to Own data and uses it to rank vehicles across multiple segments. The Toyota Corolla took home top honors in the compact car category, while the Tacoma finished first among mid-size pick-trucks and the Prius c won for Hybrid/Alternative energy vehicles."

Here at Burien Toyota, we are proud to offer all three of these award-winning vehicles.

"Everyone trusts Kelley Blue Book and for good reason," said Ted Klarich, general sales manager at Burien Toyota. "Kelley Blue Book has been one of the most respected sources of auto information for years. They take their awards very seriously, which is why they mean so much. We are really proud that Kelley Blue Book picked the Toyota Corolla, Tacoma and Prius c as the best "5-Year Cost to Own" vehicles in their respective categories. Very cool."

Why is a "5-year Cost to Own Award" so important? Because everyone knows that the cost to purchase a car can fluctuate based on a sale, down payment, interest rates, and more variables. But what is that vehicle REALLY going to cost you in your day-to-day life as you get gas, get maintenance, repair, etc? Kelly Blue Book has figured all that out for you for up to five years and decided that the Toyota Corolla, Tacoma, and Prius c were simply the best in their categories!

Stop by Burien Toyota today to take any of these award-winning vehicles for a test drive!

Toyota is Top Ranked in Consumer Reports' Brand Perception Survey

Consumer Reports has unveiled the results of its annual brand perception survey and Toyota came out on top, besting second place (Ford) by an impressive 25 points.

According to this article, "These scores reflect how consumers perceive each brand in seven categories: quality, safety, performance, value, fuel economy, design/style, and technology/innovation."

Toyota earned the top spot in the following categories:

  • Quality (the most important factor to consumers when buying a car)
  • Value (because people want to get the most for their money)
  • Fuel Economy (because people want to get the most gas for the money)
"Consumer Reports is very respected for their surveys and reports, but this "perception" survey is essentially directly from consumers; it's what they think is best from their experience," said Ted Klarich, general sales manager at Burien Toyota in Burien. "I think because it's coming from consumers, it makes it mean that much more."

Klarich it admits the survey is all based on opinion but points out that all customer feedback is, and that's some of the most important information. According to the article,"The key word here is “perception,” as influenced by word-of-mouth, marketing, and hands-on experience. Often, perception can be a trailing indicator, reflecting years of good or bad performance in a category..."

So Toyota must be doing something right to have earned the trust in so many categories to earn the title as best "perceived" (by consumers) brand.

Stop by Burien Toyota today to find out why consumers say Toyota is the best brand in the land.

2013 Toyota Highlander is Perfect for Your Muppets

We have blogged a couple times about the critic and consumer-pleasing 2013 Toyota Highlander, but we never took the angle that the Muppets and Terry Crews took during Toyota’s Superbowl commercial: there’s simply no room for boring.

True, you can fit Terry Crews and half a dozen Muppets (and their drums and their chickens) in the new Highlander, which speaks to the functionality of the Highlander, but the message of Crews and the Muppets is that the new Toyota Highlander is not your ordinary SUV.

“The 2013 Toyota Highlander really stands out in terms of functionality, but also in style, performance, and technology,” said Ted Klarich, general sales manager at Burien Toyota. “You may not have Muppets bouncing around in your Highlander, but this car is perfect for families. And sometimes kids bounce around like Muppets.”

Toyota knows that drivers, especially families, want options. “Highlander is available with either 2- or 4-Wheel Drive and with a 4- or 6-cylinder engine. Looks like Highlander has thought of everything.”

The 2013 Toyota Highlander doesn’t just seat seven, it has comfort for seven with its three-zone automatic climate control and Center Stow System. “Beneath the center console, there’s a Center Stow™ seat you can pull out, lock in place between the second-row captain’s chairs and fold open. Or replace it with the Center Stow™ console to hold drinks and smaller items.”

Of course, everyone wants to keep their Muppets safe, so the 2013 Toyota Highlander takes safety very seriously. “When it comes to driving, Toyota doesn’t accept the old adage that what can go wrong, will. Real safety involves anticipating trouble and then avoiding it.” The Toyota Highlander does this with these features:

·         Enhanced Vehicle Stability Control
·         Traction Control
·         ABS, EBD, and BA
·         Smart Stop Technology

The 2013 Toyota Highlander doesn’t just lead the way with safety, but also with technology to please the whole family, including Toyota’s Entune infotainment system.

Stop by Burien Toyota today to take the 2013 Toyota Highlander for a test drive to find out why it’s perfect for the Muppet and your muppets.

5 Things to Keep in Mind After a Fender-Bender

Nobody ever wants or expects them, but car accidents happen every day.  If you suddenly find yourself involved in a fender-bender, the stress of the situation can jumble your thoughts, making you more likely to forget some important steps.  Here are a few things to keep in mind right after a car accident.

-Make sure everyone is okay before you exchange contact and insurance information with the other motorist involved.

-Report the incident to your insurance company, even if you are at fault.

-Take pictures.  Not only will this proof help when sorting things out with an insurance company, but it could serve as useful if there happens to be a dispute about the situation.  Taking notes is a good idea, too.

-Be careful who you talk to.  If you are contacted by the other motorist’s insurance company, it is best to direct them to your insurance company instead of speaking for yourself.  Sensitive situations like car accidents are best left to professionals!

-If there is a dispute with your insurance company, get an attorney.

Toyota is Global Sales King

Toyota is king of global sales for the second year in row!

Toyota has sold more vehicles than any other automaker in 2012 and 2013; in 2013, Toyota 9.98 million units. In 2014 Toyota expects to sell ten million units.

As a sound company, this means Toyota’s profits were also in the lead, out-earning General Motors and Volkwagen combined (number two and three in sales, respectively).

“What Toyoda has been doing is to go back to Toyota’s original philosophy and focus on products and long-term goals,” said Kota Yuzawa, an analyst at Goldman Sachs Group Inc. in Tokyo. “Last year was the first year his efforts began to bear fruits. The product cycle has just started and they can probably continue to roll out good products and give us good numbers.”

Locally, here at Burien Toyota, we want to thank everyone in the Puget Sound area for their part in making Toyota the number one sold brand in the world.

“It’s a very competitive market,” said Ted Klarch, general sales manager at Burien Toyota. “All cars are getting better, safer, more efficient, and include more technology. To be number one for the second year in a row is quite an accomplishment. We are proud to be part of a company and brand that people obviously love and come back to.”

The U.S. market/sales plays a big role in Toyota’s sales supremacy. According to this article at IndyStar.com, “U.S. sales of Toyota, Lexus and Scion models rose 7.4 percent last year to 2.24 million, the most since its 2007 record year in its largest market. The Camry sedan fended off competition from Honda Motor Co.’s Accord, Nissan Motor Co.’s Altima and Ford Motor Co’s Fusion sedan to remain the top- selling U.S. car for a 12th consecutive year, as the weaker yen gave Toyota room to offer higher incentives for the model.”

Stop by Burien Toyota today to take any number of new or quality pre-owned Toyotas for a test drive to find out exactly why more Toyotas are sold than any other brand!

The Toyota Prius Plug-in is one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the United States…but you it may not be the first one you think of when you think of EVs.
And we want to change that.

There are lot of advantages to the Toyota Prius Plug-in that makes it one of the best EV choices. Torquenews.com gives one really great reason the Prius Plug-in is one of the best: “It is “the hybrid you love, now with a plug.” The upside of the Plug-in is that one can travel about 11 miles (according to Toyota) on electric power alone if fully charged. When that runs out, or if you drive onto the highway, it will simply turn back into a 50 MPG Prius, which is by far the leading selling green car on Earth. A lot of people must like something about the regular Prius models. It sold 222,000 of them last year.”

Basically, it’s the Prius that so many Americans have come to love that is also electrified.
What else makes it one of the sleeper favorites according to Torquenews.com?

·     Like an EV, the Plug-in Prius can pre-condition its cabin, and in some places you can get a high occupancy lane sticker for it.
·
Also like an EV your neighbors are going to help you pay for it. There is a $2,500 federal tax credit (compared to the $7,500 for a full EV)
·
The Prius Plug-in never runs out of range. It can be fueled up in under 5 minutes at any corner gas station and then drive like any other Prius for hundreds of miles. Or it can be driven 11 miles on full electric and then recharged.
·
It can charge at home on a dedicated 115 volt, 15 amp circuit. In fact, it only takes 3 hours to top off using that power source. Other “full” electrics require more powerful and sometimes, more elaborate charging set-ups.

“When people come to Burien Toyota looking for an efficient, environmentally friendly vehicle, they often come looking for a traditional Prius,” said Ted Klarich, general sales manager at Burien Toyota. “They may not realize, though, that there is a whole family of Prius vehicles, including the Prius Plug-in that is quietly becoming one of the favorite electrified vehicles in the nation. Probably a big part of that is due to the fact that people of come to trust the Prius brand. And for good reason.”

As you would expect with an EV, the Toyota Prius Plug-in includes some pretty great technology, like:

Lane Keep Assist (LKA): Available LKA can help keep Prius in its own lane if the lane lines are clearly visible. If an inadvertent lane departure is detected, the system issues an audible tone and warning screen. And when Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) is engaged, LKA can also help to keep Prius centered in its lane on an ongoing basis by providing a corrective steering force when necessary.
Vehicle Proximity Notification System (VPNS): When Prius is traveling below 15 mph and running solely on electric power, it emits a series of tones to help alert pedestrians of the vehicle’s presence. So that the tones won’t be lost against an urban backdrop, they are high- and low-pitched, rising and falling with changes in vehicle speed.
Backup Camera: When you’re backing up, the available backup camera displays the area behind the vehicle that’s visible to the camera on the touch-screen of the navigation system or on the audio system’s display.
·   Smart Key System: With the Smart Key in your pocket or purse, the doors of Prius unlock when you touch the driver’s door handle, and the engine starts with the push of a button.

Stop by Burien Toyota today to find out what makes the Toyota Prius Plug-in one of the best EVs in the market!
