Toyota Develops World's First Behavior Observation Method for Lithium Ions in Electrolyte

Breakthrough Contributes to R&D that will Lead to Longer Battery Life and Longer Driving Range for Vehicles Using Lithium ion Batteries
Toyota Motor Corporation has developed the world's first method for observing the behavior of lithium ions (Li-ions) in an electrolyte when a Li-ion battery charges and discharges.

By using this method, it is possible to observe in real-time, the deviation of Li-ions?one of the causes of deterioration in the performance of Li-ion batteries. Toyota believes that this will provide essential guidelines for R&D that aims to improve the performance and durability of batteries, which would lead to longer battery life, as well as longer driving ranges for plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHVs) and electric vehicles (EVs).

Li-ion batteries use a metal oxide in the cathode, a carbon material in the anode, and an organic electrolyte for the electrolyte. Lithium ions flow in the electrolyte from the cathode to the anode when the battery is charging, and from the anode to the cathode when the battery is discharging, which results in an electric current flow. Thus, the Li-ions play an essential role within the electrolyte during battery charging and discharging.

Structure and Principles of an Automotive Li-ion Battery
Structure and Principles of an Automotive Li-ion Battery
It has been known that Li-ion deviation occurs in the electrodes and electrolyte as a result of charging and discharging, and such deviation has been believed to limit the usage area of batteries, which is one factor that reduces the area in which the maximum performance of the battery can be achieved. When investigating the mechanism of Li-ion deviation, however, confirming the behavior of Li-ions in the electrolyte under the same environment and conditions as when it is being used in related products was not possible using existing methods.
Condition While Discharging
Condition While Discharging

The two main features of the observation method that Toyota developed to help solve this problem are as follows:
  1. The Toyota Beamline2 in the SPring-83 synchrotron radiation facility, which generates the world's highest-performance synchrotron radiation, produces high-intensity X-rays that are approximately 1 billion times more powerful than those generated by an X-ray equipment. This makes it possible to create 0.65 micron/pixel high-resolution and 100 ms/frame high-speed measurements.
  2. In place of the electrolyte with phosphorous that is used in many Li-ion batteries, a new electrolyte with heavy elements is being utilized instead, thus replacing the phosphorous-containing ions that the Li-ions bind to as they move in the electrolyte with heavy element-containing ions. Heavy elements transmit less of the X-rays than phosphorous, and the shadows on the images taken after the X-rays pass through are darker. By observing the behavior of the heavy elements, it is possible to observe the deviation behavior of the Li-ions which are bound to them in the electrolyte.
Newly-Developed Observation Method
Newly-Developed Observation Method
By using the method described above, and a battery that is similar to that of related products such as laminated cell under the environment and conditions that resemble those of actual battery use, it is possible to observe in real-time, the process of Li-ion deviation that occurs in electrolytes during the course of battery charging and discharging. This observational method was jointly developed by Toyota Central R&D Labs, Inc., Nippon Soken, Inc., and four universities.4

Going forward, Toyota will observe the behavior of Li-ions caused by differences in the materials and structures of cathodes, anodes, separators, and electrolytes, as well as the differences in battery control. Analyzing the mechanisms that cause deterioration of battery performance will lead to R&D that can help to improve the performance and durability of batteries, to bring about longer battery life and longer driving ranges.

Let’s Talk Turkey. Buckle Up for Life Releases Must-Know Car Seat Tips for Thanksgiving Travel

National Education Program from Cincinnati Children’s and Toyota Helps Protect Children during the Holidays and Beyond

It’s that time of year again when millions of Americans will hit the road to travel near and far to be with friends and family.  AAA predicts that 43.5 million Americans will travel by car this Thanksgiving season.[1]

The startling truth, however, is that 75 percent of car seats in the U.S. are not used correctly.[2]That’s why Buckle Up for Life, the national car seat education program from Cincinnati Children’s and Toyota, is releasing its top tips for the Thanksgiving travel season.

“The holidays are a reminder to be thankful for all that we have – and for so many of us this includes the children in our lives,” said Gloria Del Castillo, child passenger safety expert at Cincinnati Children’s and senior outreach specialist for Buckle Up for Life. “We want every parent and caregiver to have the knowledge and resources they need to help keep child passengers safe during this special time of year and beyond. These tips from Buckle Up for Life may seem simple, but they could save a child’s life in the event of a crash.”

Buckle Up for Life’s Must-Know Thanksgiving Travel Tips
The following tips, as well as additional advice and guidance, including animated car seat installation videos, can be found on BuckleUpforLife.org.

  1. Use the “Inch and Pinch” Test. After you’ve buckled your child in, pinch the car seat strap near their shoulders. If you can pinch a wrinkle in the fabric, tighten the strap until it is snug. Then grab the car seat at the bottom where it is attached to the car and tug from side to side and front to back. If the seat moves more than an inch in either direction, tighten it.

  1. Secure Holiday “Extras” in the Car. Make sure that all gifts, luggage and other holiday “extras” are tightly secured in your vehicle. These objects could become projectiles in the event of a crash.

  1. Ensure Your Child’s Seat Faces the Correct Way. Some parents and caregivers may wonder when it’s safe to turn the car seat around to face forward. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that children remain in rear-facing car seats until age two, or until they exceed the height or weight limit for the seat.

  1. Remove Your Child’s Winter Coat. Before securing your child in their seat, remove their winter coat. A coat can prevent the harness from fitting correctly. It also could compress in a crash, compromising the seat’s ability to protect your child.

  1. Don’t Rent a Car Seat. Traveling by plane? If you are renting a car, use your own car seat. When you rent a seat you don’t know important facts about its history that could affect its ability to protect your child (e.g., expiration date, crash history, etc.) The good news is that many airlines allow you to check your car seat for free.

Toyota Explores Heavy-Duty Hydrogen Fuel Cell Application

Furthers Commitment to Hydrogen Society

Semi Truck log thousands and thousands of miles on the road every year, but as environmentally conscious as the auto industry is trying to become, not much attention has been paid when it comes to alternate fuels.

Until Toyota. Which recently announced this:

"Toyota has long maintained that hydrogen fuel cell technology could be a zero emission solution across a broad spectrum of vehicle types. The scalability of this technology is enabling the automaker to explore a semi-trailer truck application for a California-based feasibility study.

"The Toyota Mirai will continue to provide a zero emission driving solution for global customers; a heavy-duty truck sized fuel cell vehicle creates a potential zero-emission freight transportation solution for the future.

"Additional details on the study, and the continued evolution of a hydrogen society, will be announced in the coming months."

We can't wait to hear what Toyota has dreamed up next!

2017 Tacoma Welcomes All-New TRD Pro to Its Work-Hard, Play-Hard Lineup

  • All-new Next-Generation TRD Pro Offers Uncompromising Off-Road Expertise
  • America’s Best-Selling Mid-size Pickup for 10 Years Running
  • Assembled at Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX) in San Antonio and available in 31 models
  • Revised SR5 Option Packages Available
Last year, the midsize pickup truck segment got thoroughly rocked by the introduction of the all-new Toyota Tacoma. Well, the Tacoma isn’t done shaking things up, and for 2017, the venerated pickup welcomes the toughest model ever to its storied lineage, the new TRD Pro. It is, without a doubt, the ultimate expression of Tacoma off-road capability, versatility, and design.

The Tacoma certainly didn’t become America’s best-selling mid-size pickup for 10 years running by taking it easy. The new generation introduced last year brought a number of improvements, including the use of high-strength steel to help enhance rigidity and overall strength; a powerful and efficient 278-horsepower 3.5-liter Atkinson-cycle V6 with VVT-iW (Variable Valve Timing with Intelligent Wider Intake) and Toyota’s D-4S technology; updated suspension tuning; and the model’s most comfortable and functional passenger cabin ever.

In addition to welcoming the new 2017 TRD Pro, the 2017 Tacoma gets revised value-loaded optional amenity packages for SR5 models.

Brute Strength on Multiple Levels
Extensive use of high-strength steel in the frame and hot-stamped ultra-high strength steel in the body give the Tacoma a strong foundation for hard work, hard play, and durability. All Tacoma models are equipped with double wishbone coil-spring front suspension and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. The refined setup delivers a smooth on-road ride, yet also bolsters the truck’s off-road driving capability.

“Strong” is also an apt descriptor for the Tacoma’s two available powertrains. Its entry-level 2.7-liter DOHC four-cylinder with VVT-i produces 159 horsepower and 180 lb.-ft. of peak torque. Those wanting extra oomph can opt for the segment-first Atkinson-cycle 3.5-liter V6 featuring the Toyota’s innovative VVT-iW technology. The engine also utilizes Toyota’s D-4S injection system which incorporates both direct injection and port fuel injection. Along with its 278 horsepower, the V6 makes 265 lb.-ft. of peak torque.

The engines can be teamed to a six-speed Electronically Controlled Automatic Transmission with intelligence (ECT-i) or a manual transmission (six-speed for V6 applications; five-speed for four-cylinder applications). When equipped with an optional V6 Tow Package, the Tacoma can pull up to 6,800 lbs. (per the SAE J2807 tow standard).

High Style, High Function
Taking inspiration from Toyota’s legendary desert race trucks, CALTY designers in Newport Beach, California and Ann Arbor, Michigan helped give the new-generation Tacoma an unmistakably athletic and stylish identity that retains everyday functionality and ruggedness. The overfenders, for example, look tough but also serve to accommodate the suspension’s generous wheel travel. And the truck’s high-lift image reflects its go-anywhere capability. Seven available wheel designs range in diameter from 16 to 18 inches.

Tacoma’s chiseled face is anchored by a bold, hexagonal grille and a tall, muscular hood. Its slim, projection beam headlights can be outfitted with available LED daytime running lights. The tailgate adds an easy lowering feature, which allows it to slowly retract, preventing it from slamming down. An available factory-installed tri-fold hard tonneau cover secures gear when you’re away.

The Tacoma’s exterior color palette includes Black, Blazing Blue Pearl, Barcelona Red Metallic, Inferno, Quicksand, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Cement (TRD Pro only), Silver Sky Metallic, and Super White.

Its tough exterior is complemented by an interior that’s simultaneously comfortable and functional. Soft-wrapped trim and metallic accents set the stage for a high-quality look and feel, underscored by an array of available premium features, including:

  • Qi wireless charging
  • Smart key with push-button start
  • Leather-trimmed seats
  • Power tilt/slide moonroof
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Enhanced touchscreen audio
  • Blind-Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert

In addition to offering premium features, the Tacoma is quiet thanks to enhanced door seals, a multi-layer acoustic windshield, sound-absorbing headliner, and a floor silencer pad. Interior storage is maximized in Access Cab models with fold-up rear seats and under-seat storage. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.

31 Reasons to Love Tacoma
The 2017 Tacoma is available in 31 models based on two cab types, the extended Access Cab and four-door Double Cab, each available in 4x2 or 4x4 configurations. Access Cab models offer under-seat rear storage space, and their fold-up seat cushions maximize carrying space. Double Cab models feature 60/40 split rear seats with adjustable headrests and under-seat storage.

Tacoma is available in six model grades, each with its own purpose and unique appearance:

  • Work-ready SR
  • High-style, high-value SR5
  • Athletic TRD Sport
  • Adventurous TRD Off-Road
  • Top-of-the-line Limited
  • Ultimate Off-Road TRD Pro

The Access Cab models ride on a 127.4-inch wheelbase and have a 73.7-inch-long bed. The Double Cab is offered in two versions: the 127.4-inch wheelbase with a 60.5-inch bed or 140.6-inch wheelbase with the 73.7-inch bed.

Both bed styles are designed to take punishment with an inner bed made from a sheet-molded composite (SMC) deck and tough, durable walls that are 10-percent lighter than steel. The bed deck features two-tier loading and an integrated deck-rail utility system with four standard adjustable tie-down cleats.

Just about whatever you need to carry, the deck rail system can do it. It’s compatible with Genuine Toyota Accessories, including a cargo divider that locks into the rails to help keep cargo from sliding around the bed, and mini tie-downs with hooks that also help to secure cargo.  An available 120V/400W power point further extends the bed’s utility.

Throne-like Seating
Comfort and durability come together in Tacoma’s seating, which varies by model grade. All Tacoma’s feature a driver’s seat with adjustable lumbar support and four-way adjustable front passenger seats. The SR and SR5 grades are equipped with fabric-trimmed seats. Seating for the TRD Sport and Off-Road grades is uniquely upholstered with embossed fabric that conveys a dynamic and rugged feel. The TRD Pro comes with leather-trimmed seating plus heated front seats, and the premium Limited grade offers seats trimmed in rich leather. Seating colors include:

  • SR: Fabric in Cement Gray
  • SR5: Fabric in Cement Gray; Black with Caramel or Red accent stitching
  • TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road: Fabric in Graphite; Black with Orange accent stitching
  • Limited: Leather in Hickory
  • TRD Pro: Leather in Black

The Adventure Enabler
All Tacoma 4x4 models are equipped with 4WDemand part-time 4WD with an electronically controlled transfer case and Automatic Limited Slip Differential (Auto LSD). Auto LSD is an electronic, brake actuated system that functions like a mechanical limited slip differential when activated a low speeds. Tacoma TRD Sport models are equipped with sport-tuned shocks. TRD Off-Road models include an off-road tuned suspension equipped with Bilstein® shocks.

Tacoma off-roading adventures will reach new levels of fun in the TRD Off-Road grade thanks to the addition of incredible technology. A Multi-Terrain Select system (automatic transmission only) allows the driver to choose between different types of terrain such as loose rock, or mud and sand. Each input regulates wheel spin by adjusting throttle and brake pressure to provide maximum traction on almost any terrain.

Additional off-road technology includes Locking Rear Differential, Hill Start Assist Control (HAC), clutch Start Cancel (manual transmission only), Active Traction Control, and Crawl Control. Engaging Crawl Control allows the driver to select a speed of 1-5 mph. The Crawl Control system takes over the acceleration and braking, allowing the driver to focus solely on steering.

All Tacoma models are equipped with a coil-spring double wishbone front suspension and stabilizer bar and leaf spring rear suspension with staggered outboard-mounted gas shocks. Brakes are power-assisted ventilated front disc and rear drum brakes with a tandem booster.

Optional on V6 models is the V6 Tow Package that includes a Class IV Towing Receiver Hitch, ATF Cooler (not available on manual transmission), Engine Oil Cooler, Power Steering Cooler, 130-Amp Alternator, 4- and 7-Pin Connector with Converter, and Trailer-Sway Control (TSC).

TRD Pro: The Off-Roading Master
Born from Toyota’s long history of off-road racing success and knowhow, the TRD Pro vehicles are aimed squarely at the most dedicated adventure-seeking, off-road-loving, work-hard-play-hard enthusiasts. Toyota offers the TRD Pro models for Tundra and 4Runner, and now, for the second time, the next generation Tacoma.

You’d be hard pressed to mistake the 2017 Tacoma TRD Pro for something else. Its heritage-inspired “TOYOTA” front grille with color-keyed surround, blacked out hood scoop and graphic, color-keyed power outside mirrors with turn signal indicators, color-keyed door handles, black overfenders, and color-keyed rear bumper all distinguish it as the most adventurous grade. Available TRD Pro exterior colors includes Cement, Barcelona Red Metallic, and Super White.

The TRD Pro not only looks tough, but is designed specifically to perform in the toughest of off-road environments. Based on the Tacoma TRD Off-Road 4x4 Double Cab short-bed model with either a six-speed manual transmission (with clutch start-cancel switch) or six-speed automatic, the Tacoma TRD Pro comes ready to conquer hill and trail. The New Hotness: 2018 C-HR Ushers in an Exciting Chapter of Toyota Style, Versatility, and Performance

Bold, Eye-Catching Style Signals New Direction in Toyota Design
•    Nürburgring-Tuned Agile Handling
•    Standard Toyota Safety Sense P™ (TSS-P)

An exciting next chapter in Toyota’s storied North American product history has been revealed under the lights of the Los Angeles Convention Center. Stylish, athletic, and tech-filled, the all-new 2018 Toyota C-HR – or, Coupe High-Rider – represents a leap forward in design, manufacturing, and engineering for Toyota. When it arrives at dealerships next spring, the C-HR will serve as a solid springboard of excitement, adventure, and pride for its fashion-forward, trendsetting owners.

Last year at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Scion debuted its stunning C-HR Concept. That well-received design study set the stage for the Toyota C-HR, which, nearly to the tee, carries on the concept’s avant-garde physique; modern, comfortable cabin; and bold, outgoing character.

The C-HR will be available in two grades at launch, XLE and XLE Premium, each equipped with a long list of standard premium features that includes 18-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, supportive bucket seating, 7-inch audio display, and Toyota Safety Sense P™ (TSS-P).

But, the C-HR doesn’t only look great – it’s got the sportiness to impress thanks to Deputy Chief Engineer, Hiro Koba, who is a diehard racer at heart. He and his team made it their mission to ensure the C-HR exhilarates its driver anytime, anywhere. Like its uncanny looks, the C-HR’s comprehensive and cohesive blend of comfort, control, consistency, and responsiveness that was cultivated on the famed Nürburgring is as impressive as it is unique.

POLISHED DIAMOND STYLE
Toyota’s team of global designers expounded on one theme: “Distinctive Diamond.” The iconic gemstone evokes universal notions of luxury, attractiveness, sophistication, and strength. Designers translated these traits into a physical form that’s collectively matchless, sexy, muscular, and edgy. From the get-go, they strived to sculpt an urban-dwelling crossover that would effortlessly navigate tight city streets and stand out, with an agile, dynamic expressiveness.

At the C-HR’s nose, two slim projector-beam halogen headlights with LED daytime running lights wrap deep into its toned shoulders – nearly all the way into the front quarter panels. Because of this, the vehicle looks wider than it is, and possesses an assertive fascia that’s uncommon in the segment.

Deep, curvy character lines emerge from a prominent Toyota badge that’s flanked by the headlamps, and lead into the narrower core body. They run below the slender windows, and continue above the rear wheel where they marry to a high beltline and distinctive C-Pillar with integrated door handle.

Look closely at the silhouette to see the clear resemblance of a diamond set on its side. Powerful arches housing the extra-large 18-inch aluminum wheels accentuate the C-HR’s sturdy posture and compact cabin.

The rear is a cohesive melding of its elaborate lines and 3D shapes. The tail lamps protrude outward, and the hatchback – outfitted with a lip spoiler and functional top wing – tapers neatly inboard, adding to the C-HR’s futuristic look, and, once more, surprising girth.

CUTTING-EDGE CABIN
Opening a door reveals a modern, spacious, and uncluttered interior having a keen placement of diamond accents and a driver-centric “MeZONE” orientation. Along with the soft-touch materials covering surfaces throughout, the diamond pattern influences the designs of the dual-zone climate controls, speaker surrounds, and black headliner above the front passengers.

The slightly angled dashboard and amenity controls allows for the driver to have a clear view of the road ahead and intuitive access to instrumentation – a nod to the C-HR’s sports car influence. The 7-inch audio display is positioned centrally atop the dash, rather than in it, so as to help reduce a driver’s eye movements. An informative twin-ring gauge cluster resides behind the leather-wrapped multi-function steering wheel. The wheel, with its slender profile, small diameter, and compact center pad, is reminiscent of a sports car’s easy-to-grip helm. The satin-plated shift knob exudes a high-quality feeling, and once in-hand, has a solid shift movement. A bright 4.2-inch color Multi-Information Display sits between the twin-ring cluster.

Key XLE standard features include a premium leather steering wheel; power fold and heated mirrors; auto-dimming rearview mirror with backup camera; electric parking brake; and dual-zone climate control. The XLE Premium builds upon the XLE’s amenities and adds Blind Spot Monitor and Rear Cross Traffic Alert; heated front seats; power lumbar driver’s seat; auto fold, heated side mirrors with puddle lamps that project “Toyota C-HR”; fog lamps; and Smart Key with Push Button Start. Both grades are equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen display having AM/FM/HD Radio™, Aha™app, USB port and AUX jack, Bluetooth®, and Voice Recognition with voice training.

Bolstered bucket seats help keep passengers snug and comfortable, no matter their commute’s duration or dynamism. All passengers will appreciate the generous amount of small item storage space and cup holders. Designers used scalloped seatbacks, foot well cubbies carved below the front seats, and a chamfered headliner to create a spacious backseat environment. Sound insulating materials placed on the carpet, headliner, A-pillars, and door trim to help keep all unwanted noises out and the good conversations in. For extra cargo carrying versatility on weekend trips or errand runs, the rear 60/40 seat can split and fold flat.

SURPRISE ATHLETE
The Toyota C-HR scores high on style points, but it is also a hit when it comes to thrilling fun and impressive comfort. Deputy Chief Engineer Koba took full advantage of the C-HR’s adaptable Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) to craft an engaging character that goes well beyond just a cool appearance. The C-HR’s core driving personality incorporates the ingredients of a well-sorted sports car – one that seamlessly melds cunning responsiveness, linearity, consistency, and comfort.

Years were spent developing the C-HR’s driving performance and ride quality on some of the world’s most curvaceous and challenging roads, including the Nürburgring Nordschleife, an iconic racing circuit. Doing so took a mix of innovation, creativity, and trial and error. As a result, the TNGA platform – with an inherent low center-of-gravity, high strength, and low weight – benefitted from extra rigidity through added spot welding, gussets, braces, and adhesives in and on key connection structures.

The newly developed MacPherson strut front suspension with SACHS dampers has angled strut bearings and a large diameter stabilizer bar to help the C-HR’s front end respond quickly and precisely at initial corner turn-in. And at the rear, an all-new double-wishbone suspension utilizes SACHS shock absorbers with urethane upper supports – a first for Toyota. The material, together with an aluminum-cast upper support housing, aids in the dampers’ absorption efficiency, and therefore, greatly benefit passenger comfort, cabin quietness, and vehicle agility.

Feeling connected to the road is characteristic of a sporty drive, and the C-HR delivers with its column-type Electronic Power Steering (EPS) system. As is the case with other EPS systems, a tilt of the steering wheel will return light feedback at low speeds, and at higher speeds, drivers will notice stronger feedback for increased confidence while behind the wheel. The C-HR’s steering system’s feel, however, relies on a highly rigid rack-and-pinion steering gearbox that is installed directly to the front suspension.

For all of its sportiness, the C-HR’s ride quality is well-sorted, civilized, and highly capable in absorbing the nastiest of unkempt pavement. The end result is a C-HR that finds itself as at home on congested boulevards as it does on serpentine roads.

COMPACT PUNCH
The C-HR’s engine, a punchy 2.0-liter four-cylinder producing 144 horsepower and 140 pound-feet of torque, sends all power to the front wheels via continuously variable transmission (CVT). The engine employs many of Toyota’s latest generation of technologies, including Variable Valve Timing (VVT) and Valvematic, both of which have received extensive optimization to enhance fuel economy and smooth operation. Valvematic offers a broader range of continuously variable valve timing (lift and phasing) to provide optimal intake valve (not on exhaust side) operation relative to engine demands. Furthermore, to reduce exhaust emissions, the catalyst is warmed earlier during the engine’s ignition cycle.

The all-new CVT received much attention by engineers, and utilizes redesigned pulleys to enhance acceleration and fuel economy; a new belt structure to reduce cabin noise; and, a world’s-first coaxial two-port oil pump system that allows for continuous oil pressure modifications in various driving conditions. A Preload Differential helps to distribute torque between the left and right wheels during low-speed operation to make for easier, composed driving.

Of course, drivers and passengers will appreciate the powertrain’s fuel efficiency, impressive smoothness, and quiet operation, but they’ll love Sport mode and the simulated 7-speed Sequential Shiftmatic. Engaging the Sport mode via the MID increases the responsiveness of the throttle, quickens the CVT’s automatic artificial “step-up” shifts, and maintains high engine speed to enhance acceleration. The EPS’ feedback is weightier for a more confidence-inspiring feel. Pushing the gearshift over to the left while in Drive engages Sequential Shiftmatic, and lets drivers shift simulated gears at their convenience.

STATE-OF-THE-ART SAFETY
No matter its grade, the C-HR comes equipped with standard Toyota Safety Sense P™ (TSS-P). This multi-feature advanced active safety suite bundles cutting-edge active safety technologies including Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection function (PCS w/PD) featuring forward collision warning and Automatic Emergency Braking, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist function (LDA w/SA), Automatic High Beams (AHB), and Full-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC). The C-HR is the only competitor in the segment to offer standard Full-Speed DRCC.

Complementing TSS-P are 10 standard airbags, standard Hill-Start Assist Control (HAC) and rear backup camera, as well as available Blind Spot Monitor with Rear Cross Traffic Alert, which are only available on the XLE Premium grade.

Toyota Goes to the Extreme with SEMA 2016 Builds

Toyota Unveils Custom Builds and Celebrates the Past and Present
Toyota revealed an unprecedented suite of 30 vehicles on display at the 2016 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) Show. Toyota selected each vehicle to either honor the past, explore the present or reveal the extreme—and in some extreme cases, all three of these elements come into play. There is even a special display honoring Corolla’s 50 years.

“The Toyota call to action is ‘Let’s Go Places,’ ” said Steve Appelbaum, Toyota Motor Sales National Engagement Marketing Manager. “This phrase encompasses what we are, what we do and what we create. It’s our guiding principle and at the core of our promise to customers. Our SEMA display demonstrates the breadth of that promise, across all generations of Toyota vehicles.”

The six Toyota extreme builds, four of which are entered into the Battle of the Builders® competition, embody the SEMA spirit of imagination and innovation—taking stock builds and transforming them into something inspired.

Appelbaum commented, “We have a lot to celebrate. This historical collection demonstrates the unique and constant innovation of Toyota. There’s never been an exhibit quite like this one at SEMA.”

Here is a recap of what is on display through Nov 4th.
